To say these past couple of weeks have been hard would be an understatement. Realizing how short and fragile life really is just makes me realize even more how important my job is. We probably chose the busiest time to try and do Quinn's 3 year photos, but I needed it. It truly is like therapy for me. One on one photo shoots with children/babies are my passion and my happy place. For Quinn's shoot, I had a custom fawn headband made by Birdie Baby Boutique to have the "woodland creature" feel. From there I just let Quinn be Quinn. Of course, she knew there was a sucker at the end waiting for her so that was incentive, but really we just made her laugh and let her personality shine.
My biggest piece of advice for photoshoot of children or just in general is to not stress about it. Also, have fun with it! I got her a $12 dress and the fun headband, curled her hair and just relaxed. Children don't do well when they're told to look a certain way or pose a certain way. Just step back and let them be them (I realize in the studio things must be more structured). Have an incentive ready at the end. Pick things to wear that are fun for them and bring props they love to make them feel comfortable. Our photo shoot from start to finish was less than 30 minutes. We changed one time and this time included the gator ride down and around country bottoms. Please know that your child does not want to do this longer than 30 minutes. One hour starts to push their limits and more than 2 outfits, depending on your child's mood, tend to do the same. This is just advice from working with children the past 8 years!
Watching my little girl dance around and laugh was just what I needed. Not a care in the world and she truly just loves life. And I captured memories of her that I'll cherish forever. I also had fun editing with a few fun effects.
Enjoy :)
